FD # 22: Nail Salons and Polish Junkies

I'm in Florida on vacation and I decided to get my nails done since I didn't get the chance before I left. Meanwhile, at the salon I came face to face with one of my many beauty weaknesses, nail polish.
So these are the new desirees. :)

Friday Diary 21: Ode to the 'ole Alma Mater

Today, 12/16/2012 marks the one year anniversary of my college graduation. I don't know what I expected but somehow I don't feel like this day has had the right air. I guess I expected today to be a 'reflect' on the year-kind of day. Honestly, I didn't even realize it was the anniversary until about 10PM. Regardless, in honor of the great 'ole UH:

Talk to you soon! *hugs and kisses*

iZara: Bottoms Up?!?

Next section in my iZara series, an ode to my current clothes obsession... ZARA! This time its all about the bottoms, so skirts, pants, leggings and jeans! Still alot of leather, floral prints & mixed mediums!

I dedicate this post to my new blog friend, Sharmana LynnI'm glad you liked the last one so much! ;)

iZara: Annie, get your coat!

So, I thought I'd feature some of my favorite items from Zara in posts this week. I have to say, I'm in love with the 'Z' right now. I do, however, concur that they are an overpriced H&M...doesn't stop me from lusting after them, though.

This edition is all about COATS! Can you tell I'm going to Michigan, in Dec/ Jan? What's a Texas girl to do when she finds out she's going up north for the winter but worry about the cold?! <3

In case y'all haven't noticed, I'm really into mixed mediums and textures at the moment. I couldn't tell you why but I think the winter gives way to texture as it brings the dark colors! <3

Friday Diary #19 Apps, Nails & Braids

First off, I apologize for not posting a Friday Diary last week. Frankly, I wasn't able to post on Friday or the weekend and then it just got away from me.

However, I do have some exciting news to share with you...for once! :-)

I GOT A NAIL RACK!!!! *cheers* I find this very encouraging, because this proves that I have under 100 full size bottles of nail polish! *more shinies*

Secondly, I went to the Renaissance festival last Saturday with a group of friends and I got my hair braided... ahh-mazing!

Last but not least, I have a bit of a tech update. I recently downloaded the following game:

It's called Archery and it really is as simple as the screenshot, and name, imply. The reason I'm sharing is that this game has inspired me to create, and possibly publish, an Android app!!! :-) I'm thinking I would do another series of post as I did for the Java assignments. What are your thoughts? Would you want to see my progress through writing an Android application?

Do you have any suggestions for what I could do?

Friday Diary 18, ATX

I'm in ATX (Austin, TX fyi) to visit my sister so I don't have much to say this week! I did post another vlog at pkgadgvlogs

I don't want these Friday Diary posts to become a springboard for my YT channel, but this is pretty much all I have to talk about this week... :(

Hope all is well! <3

Monochromatic Florals

I have another outfit post for you, sort of an ode to my old days. :)  Check out my Chictopia post!

I got these leggings a while ago and I really wanted to see how I could wear them. I tried a monochromatic look and let the leggings make the statement they were meant to.

Leggings: DailyLook, Shirt: Sam's Club (yes, again) Scarf: CATO (gifted) Boots: Stein Mart

I don't know how I like this look. What do you think? Can I pull off printed leggings?

Friday Diary #17 - Mean Muggin'

I just posted a new MOV (move out vlog) to YouTube, check out my mug collection. :)

My progress on project pan(s) thus far:

  • 2/5 perfumes
  • 1/10 makeup products
  • 9/92 days w/o shoes, clothes or accessories
Not bad considering I just started! Some other good news: the Clarisonic Mia does wonders! My face has cleared up in 2 weeks more than it has in 3 months. I attribute that 60% to the Clarisonic and 30% to the Clinque 3-Step line I've been using in conjunction. The other 10% is consistency on my part, i.e. washing my face twice a day, everyday. YAY!!!

Shoe Haul 564577686

Yes, I have another shoe haul for you! Now I feel the need to preface this by saying that I recognize that I have a problem and have since put myself on multiple 'Project Pan' initiatives. Namely, a Project 10 Pan on Makeup. Project 5 Pan on Perfumes, and I've instituted a embargo on all accessory shopping for 3 months!

Fyi: Project Pan is a name for restricting purchase of new goods until a number of products have been used up, or you 'hit pan on them'. Obviously, this is usually done with makeup, hence the references to tin pans.

Never mind that now, onward with the shoes!

Now, I made a rather large order from Shoedazzle (totaling $150) because I've been quite impressed with previous purchases from the site!

 Danger - $39.95
 Jive - No longer available
 Jessica - $39.95
Sophie - $39.95
Now, if you haven't noticed Shoedazzle is a relatively affordable shoe site but they have alot of variety in terms of styles and colors. The variety and 'bang for your buck' of Shoedazzle is what really speaks to me!

On to Shoemint:
So I've had a few credits saved up with Shoemint because  I forgot to skip months. I was very reluctant to try Shoemint again, because I was very disappointed in my first purchase from them. I decided to give the Carol & Kathryn a try because they caught my eye
(and Follow Me on Pinterest) and were on sale.
 Carol - $51.98
Kathryn - $51.98
I have to admit I'm really lovin' both of these! The two negatives for them are:
  • Carol's are made from printed cow hide (real fur)
  • Kathryn's are very low cut which leads to toe cleavage (its too late for me to return them so I'm going to keep them but I hate that bit about them)
What do you think? Crazy? Too many shoes? :)
Leave me a comment with your opinions on this purchase or if you own any of the shoes themselves!

Friday Diary #16 - Validation at Work

The title of this post is a little somber, but I promise not to be too serious in this post! :)

So this Friday I was invited to partake in interviewing new candidates for my company. I have to admit that I was very excited for this opportunity and its quite validating to be on the other side of the fence. I feel like I reached a milestone in my career, where I'm moving into seasoned professional territory! So, I had a great time, I learned alot and am i a very good place at work right now!

I posted another MOV (Move Out Vlog) last night:

I have to admit that I have definitely been slacking on uploading these and that is mostly because of this video. I had to do alot of editing and was completely unmotivated to work on it while on vacation so it just got done! Hope you can forgive! *hangs head in shame*

Head on over to my YT channel and check out the latest MOVs & a few hauls I posted!

Friday Diary #15- Back from the Caribbean

Hello lovely pink gadgets readers! <3

I'm back from my vacation, if you couldn't tell from the title of this post, I went to the Caribbean. A cruise to St. Thomas, St. Maarten and the Bahamas to be exact.

I cruised with Royal Carribean on the Oasis of the Seas.

I have to admit I had high hopes of this cruise because of the grandeur of the ship, it holds ~6K passengers  To put that in perspective, the average cruise ship accommodates about 2 - 3K passengers.

While my experience on board was nothing to write home about, I did get the chance to do some great shopping in the Caribbean.

First and foremost in my heart, my first David Yurman bracelet!
For those of you that don't already know, the Caribbean is a global hotspot for fine jewelry shopping. Specifically, diamonds and other precious gems.
However, you can get even designer pieces like David Yurman at a pretty hefty discount. The bracelet I got retails for $775, I bought it for $697 and didn't have to pay tax on it. Now, depending on where you live, that no tax discount is a HUGE savings. I live in Texas where the sales tax is 8.25%, so I would've paid $838.94 if I bought the same bracelet in the states.

If you go to the Caribbean, plan to shop. Some retailers I recommend, which are backed by Royal Caribbean are: Jewels (for designers like Yurman, Jon Hardy, Mikimoto, etc.) and Diamonds International (for Hearts on Fire diamonds, Kabana, Safi Kalima/ tanzinite jewelry).

Well, I leave you on this Sunday, with this view.

initiMINT Haul & Review - Friday Diary

I decided to try the intiMINT brand, even though I haven't had luck with the other mint brands. I've tried JewelMint and ShoeMint, the later of which I am warming up to after my most recent purchase.

This brand is a partnering with Brooke Burke-Chavert. Though I doubt she is involved, in any capacity. Not that, that bothers me. Frankly, I don't need a celebrity endorsement to try out a brand, but I do respect Beachmint's rather inventing marketing ploy! :)

Honestly, I was quite impressed with this first purchase. I ordered the:
Side Lace Chemise (Black)
Photo from

Firstly, I think lingerie is one of the few industries where packaging, actually, is important. To that point, this is how I was welcomed to the brand:

Quite nice, I must say! I felt warm and invited. The purple envelope held a little mesh bag for your 'unmentionables'! :)

I also received a free gift with my order: 3 full-size Stila lip glosses.

L to R: Guava, Tropica Punch, Hibiscus

I haven't had a chance to really test these glosses out so I can't provide detailed feedback, but from a quick test run:
  • They smell like a tropical island
  • They aren't sticky but are tacky enough to last on the lips w/o sliding
  • They are true-to-swatch  in terms of color & have a surprising color pay off
All in all, I must say that this is the first Beachmint brand that hasn't left a bad taste in my  mouth right off the bat. I highly recommend it!

So head on over to intiMINT and leave me comment below with your experience.

Here Come the NAILS!

So, I have an Olympic themed Nail Compilation post today!!!!

The Olympics ended months ago, but during the games I felt inspired to ignore the patriotism. I quite like the juxtaposition of the nationalism of the games and the irony of a single person supporting so many different nations. :) I'm a rebel!

So to start off the post, the nation of honor:

And, because flags are just color patterns:

Hope you enjoyed!

Friday Diary, Event Edition

So, I went to an event put on by Sheckys, I believe they are an event planning organization. In any case, they hosted a 'Girl's Night Out' event which is really a shopping expo for local small businesses. I will be posting more info on it in a upcoming post about the event. Be on the look out for that.

In other news, things have been looking up on the work front and I've finished 19 Minutes. I am working on a review to post here as well as on goodreads but as a sneak peek, I tip my hat toMs. Picoult as she managed to actually change my mind on bullying by he end of the book!

Brilliant Crafts & Lovely Gifts

I saw this idea on a blog, Quirkiecraft, and decided to make it into a cute and very sweet birthday gift for a close friend.

Step 1: Gather supplies

  1. Blank Canvas
  2. Glue
  3. Random bits and bobs from around your house
  4. Spray Paint (any color, I chose red for love)
  5. Piece of scrap paper
  6. Scissors
Step 2: Block off a shape on the canvas
I picked a heart because I'm going to put a picture in it, as I said in the beginning this is a gift for a friend. Assuming she is ok with me posting a picture of her, I will post a tutorial on how I did that.

  1. Cut a shape out of the scrap paper
  2. secure the scrap paper on the canvas
I used tape, but you could use double-sided tape or glue.

Step 3: Cover the Canvas

  1. Gather bits and bobs
You want lightweight objects of varying shapes and sizes so you can easily cover space on the canvas & hang it.

      2. Glue the pieces on the canvas
Glue the pieces strategically,i.e. large pieces on the corners & small pieces around the shape you blocked off

Step 3: Paint the Canvas

  1. Secure a work area outside or a well ventilated area
I used the grass because I didn't want to go get butcher paper and the grass gets cut regularly.
     2.  Shake your can of spray paint for 1-2 minutes.

   3.  Let it dry for about 1 hour.

Step 4. Finishing touches

  1. Add more pieces if desired (I added red pieces b/c I wanted a little sparkle)
  2. Peel off the scrap paper
  3. Touch up the edges to get a clean line surrounding the shape

You're done! I have to admit this was quite a lengthy project, I worked on it for about a week. However, its a simple and very sweet gift for a friend.

Have you seem any other interesting 'junk art' pieces?

Friday Diary, on Sunday?

Per my last post, I'm moving to a new apartment. So, my life has revolved around that in the last week. I've been working on a craft project (or two) and can't wait to write a blog post on that as well as share a few nail designs inspired by the Olympics. Be on the look out for those!

Friday Diary 12 - MOV on YouTube

Dear Diary,

So I have some BIG NEWS, I've decided to not only create a YouTube channel but to also volg my move out process!!! MOV = MOVE OUT VLOGS

I was inspired to vlog my move out/move in journey by Missglamorazzi and her Vlogmas videos last year! I want to make this a video diary for myself to be able to look back on this time and see what was going on in my life at the time.

Please go to my channel to view:

Friday Diary #11

Right now, I'm reading 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult. Although, I'm only about 1/2 the way through the book, I'm completely blown away! Its amazing how a book that was written in 2006 can be so topical, as well as, a decent retelling of a heart-wrenching story that we still find unbelievable, Columbine. However, I still haven't finished the story so I won't give anymore away until I do. Don't hold your breath, turtles have crossed the street faster than I read...apparently!

Have you guy(s) discovered and hidden gems lately? (A little self-deprecating humor to save the day!)

Saturday, July 28

So, I think it's time for another nail compilation post! This time its just a few designs but I just wanted to showcase these. From left to right clockwise:
"The Cat Eye"- greens with black stripes and white shatter
Sally Hansen Salon Effects - sticker nail polish
Revlon Scented Nail Polish - white stripe for french manicure effect

Have a great weekend!

Crafty McGee

So, I got this idea from Pinterest (follow me here). The inspiration photo is below:

So I needed to give my sister a house warming present and decided this idea would be the perfect gift. AND she...LOVED it!

Start by:
Gathering the supplies
  1. Elmer's Glue- quick drying time, easily accessible and affordable
  2. Canvas (or other surface)- available at any crafts store, I used an 8.5 X 11 in. board
  3. Acrylic paint- spray paint isn't recommended for canvas
  4. Paper plate
  5. Roller- easy and big enough to paint over the canvas
First Step:
Create your design on the canvas with the glue
Second Step:
After the glue dries (2-3 hours, depending on amount of glue you used) paint the canvas with the color you selected
Third Step:
Let dry

And, you're done! VOILA!
Its honestly that simple and its such a nice addition to any wall. Obviously, you can decorate the canvas and add other colors or a picture if you'd like. I like the simple design so I stuck with that theme!

Try it and let me know how it goes in the comments below!
